Welcome to Grade 11 University Chemistry (SCH3U).

Chemistry is the study of matter, chemical trends, bonding, and reactions. It helps us understand what substances are made of, how they interact, and why they undergo change.

In this course, you will explore the structure of atoms, the organization of the periodic table, and the periodic trends that influence the behavior of elements. You will learn how atoms gain, lose, and share electrons to form chemical bonds and how these interactions lead to the formation of compounds with unique properties.

As the course progresses, you will investigate chemical reactions and the evidence that reactions have occurred. You will learn how to represent chemical changes using chemical equations, predict reaction products, and analyze the quantitative relationships that exist between reactants and products.

You will also study solutions and gases, examining how matter behaves under different conditions and how chemistry is used to explain many everyday phenomena. Throughout the course, you will develop problem-solving, critical-thinking, and scientific communication skills while applying chemical concepts to real-world situations.

Chemistry plays an important role in fields such as medicine, environmental science, engineering, agriculture, and technology. By understanding the principles of chemistry, you will gain valuable insight into the processes that shape the natural world and many aspects of modern life.

By the end of this course, you will have developed a strong foundation in chemical principles and gained the knowledge and skills necessary for future studies in science and related disciplines.

We look forward to exploring the fascinating world of matter, chemical trends, bonding, and reactions with you throughout this course.
